Job Summary:
Borton-Lawson is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to help us with our growing workload in Mechanical Design and Energy Efficiency Projects. Candidate should be a highly motivated individual, experienced in project management and must thrive on accepting responsibility and applying creativity.
Representative Tasks Include:
  • Research and analyze customer design parameters, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs and/or applications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Perform mechanical engineering design tasks such as: pump, fan, piping, ductwork design, sizing and layout for large HVAC and process mechanical projects.  Must have the ability to completely document mechanical designs and calculations for review by the project team.
  • Coordinate with engineers and other personnel to implement system operating procedures and sequences, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.  Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose non-conforming operations, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.

  • Provide direction to designers and drafters.

  • Produce engineering drawings, sketches, Process Flow Diagrams, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams and Control Diagrams in an electronic or hand format.

  • Provide construction administration services; may include review of shop drawings, attending meetings, field inspection, system startup and de-bugging.
  • Work with the project architects and engineers to survey facilities and assess/audit condition of equipment and systems in order to identify energy efficiency opportunities of a mechanical nature.

  • Develop cost benefit analysis and prepare presentations to management.  Identify projects and potential funding sources.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited four-year college/university or equivalent experience in Mechanical/Process Engineering. 

  • 5-10 years experience of combined HVAC system design and field experience on large mechanical building projects.

  • Strong communication skills, including analytical, technical writing, team building, collaboration and problem solving.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Trane Trace preferred.

  • Knowledge of the LEED certification process (LEED AP Accreditation is preferred).

  • Professional Registration, PE or EIT, are preferred.

  • Experience with AutoCAD / Revit MEP required.

  • Strong experience with construction and knowledge of building HVAC & Plumbing systems.  A thorough understanding of the Mechanical Building Codes and Construction Standards.

  • Broad knowledge and extensive experience in the operation and troubleshooting of HVAC systems, energy management control systems, security systems, building operation and maintenance and Building Management Systems (BMS).
