Levee Raising

Wyoming Valley Levee Raising, Luzerne County, PA
The design of Corps of Engineers pumping station structural retrofits for 21 storm water and WVSA sanitary pumping stations, restoration and remanufacturing of 42 pumps and motors ranging in size from 15,000 GPM to 50,000 GPM capacity, mechanical, electrical, and controls equipment to operate the pumping stations, survey and hydraulic analysis of many streams tributary to the Susquehanna River, and numerous retrofits to relief culverts, pressure conduits, stop logs, and other incidental infrastructure within the levee system.

Sealy

Sealy Corporation, Hazleton, PA
Sealy Corporation is the largest bedding manufacturer in North America. The project involved the construction within an existing shell manufacturing space of the first Sealy latex foam plant in the United States. Borton-Lawson was chosen to provide project management and design engineering services for building fit-out, equipment installation, and support system installation.

Great Bend Bridge

Great Bend/Hallstead Bridge, Susquehanna, PA
Developed a preliminary design for this three-span Parker Truss Bridge constructed in 1929. Work included coordination of extensive archaeological investigations with its subconsultants, field surveys, utility coordination, preliminary bridge submissions, H&H studies, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Plans, Maintenance of Traffic Plans, preliminary roadway submission and coordination activities including presentations at two public meetings.

Caradon Caradon Mideast Aluminum, Mountaintop, PA
Cardon Mideast Aluminum, a large aluminum extrusion and fabrication company, retained Borton-Lawson to design a major building expansion to their manufacturing facility. The 110,000 square foot expansion project was undertaken to consolidate their extrusion and fabrication operations into one facility.

Shamokin Housing Authority, Shamokin, PA
Borton-Lawson was selected from a pool of designs to complete this challenging 10-story addition. The slender shape presented a significant engineering challenge. The residents and neighbors welcome the project as an improvement to their quality of life. Borton-Lawson and the Shamokin Housing Authority are pleased to be teamed on this precedent-setting opportunity.

Scranton State School for the Deaf, Scranton, PA
Design of campus-wide safety improvements and upgrades. Project included architectural, mechanical, structural, electrical, plumbing and civil design. Fire protection, doors, windows, drainage, roofing, air quality and climate control.

solomon

Solomon Creek Bridges, Wilkes-Barre, PA
This project included replacement of the Franklin, Regent, Barney, and Waller Street Bridges over Solomon Creek in conjunction with the Solomon Creek Flood Protection Project. Further innovation included the conception of a unique removable bridge parapet design to be quickly reconfigured from a bridge railing to a floodgate. A steel boxrailing was designed on hinges allowing the Emergency Management teams to swing the railing across the roadway to act as a floodgate. According to the US Army Corps of Engineers, this system is the first of its kind in the United States.
