BL worked with the substation design engineer to coordinate the substation expansion footprint in an effort to minimize potential impacts to substation operations. BL analyzed the existing stormwater system for the increased impervious footprint and made minor modifications to the stormwater system to account for the additional volume of runoff.
Challenge A recently constructed substation, surrounded by a stormwater management system, needed to be expanded for additional equipment. The client needed to expand the substation footprint without impacting the stormwater system and reduce the overall disturbance footprint to minimize permitting efforts. Site access around the substation had to be redesigned to route around the new equipment.
Solution Borton-Lawson (BL) designed an underground stormwater system and a revised access route that allowed vehicles to travel around the new equipment and maintained permanent access throughout the site.
