Challenge Great detail of the poles and attachment points was needed along 11 miles of a Transmission line redesign. Airborne LIDAR was not accurate or timely enough to meet the schedule. The line had multiple difficult areas along it from Railroad crossings to 800’ wide 300’ deep gorges.
SolutionIn 3 short weeks 3D Laser scanning was completed of all 11 miles. The long range of the laser scanner enabled data capture along the whole line without having to get on to railroad tracks or go down into gorges. Borton-Lawson delivered the data back to the client in a format that was able to import directly into their transmission line design software reducing the amount of rework needed to interpret the data.
